Monuments to sorrow and to greed
Bark human at cowed swords and criminal enterprise
that should have passed already
An endless cavalcade of bravado, fear and worship
Distant and remiss as though it never was
Feel the ground shriek in relief as we square away our essence
Form over function over form above the sea

Prisoner and warden clash and wrestle
Insight prays to be forgiven,
No and no again, don’t argue with the tide
Grime and holy mirror
Jagged movement human throat and gasp
It won’t be long before it’s go time, don’t come back time, don’t be free or simple

We made this bed, and always knew it would come to haunt us
I clasp my hands in hope doesn’t seem real somehow
All these tropes, worthless feelings
Hold me, hold me and show me that it can all work out, even if you don’t believe it can
I need to grasp the jagged rocks that stick into my hands
That stick into my hands, and pull me down
